Lucky Mule Moving Guidelines

Moving day goes best when everyone knows what to expect. This page covers what to prepare, what we can’t transport, and what you should keep with you.

Quick checklist for move day ✅

If you have a question about a specific item, send us a quick list (or a photo) before your move and we’ll confirm what’s OK.

  • Have keys, gate codes, and elevator info ready
  • Clear a path for dollies (hallways, stairs, entrances)
  • Set aside “do not load” items (see below)
  • Empty and unplug the appliances you want moved
  • Label fragile items and point out anything special to the crew lead

Items we can’t transport (restricted items)

For safety and legal reasons, we can’t transport certain items on our moving trucks. This list usually includes:

Hazardous materials & fuel

  • Gasoline, diesel, kerosene, lighter fluid, lamp oil
  • Propane tanks (grills), gas cans, fuel containers
  • Fireworks or anything explosive

Chemicals, aerosols, and flammables

  • Paint, stain, varnish, paint thinner, solvents
  • Aerosol cans (sprays, compressed cleaners, etc.)
  • Strong chemicals (bleach/ammonia), pesticides, pool chemicals, fertilizers

Open liquids & perishables

  • Open containers of liquid that can spill or leak
  • Perishable food (refrigerated or frozen items, open food)

Living things

  • Pets and animals
  • Live plants

Firearms & ammunition

We do not handle firearms or ammunition. If you own these items, you must transport them yourself and keep them separate from the move load.

Items you should keep with you (high-value / personal)

We strongly recommend that you keep these items with you instead of putting them on the truck:

  • Cash, jewelry, watches, small valuables
  • Important documents (IDs, passports, titles, closing documents)
  • Medications and medical devices you need daily
  • Laptops, hard drives, backups, irreplaceable photos
  • Keys, remotes, chargers, and anything you’ll need immediately

Appliance prep (washer, dryer, refrigerator)

If you’re moving appliances, please have them ready before the crew arrives:

  • Washer: empty and drained (disconnect if you prefer)
  • Dryer: unplugged (gas dryers must be handled by a licensed pro)
  • Refrigerator: emptied and unplugged; secure shelves/drawers

If you want our movers to assist with a basic disconnect/reconnect where allowed, we may ask you to sign an Appliance Liability Waiver.

Packing expectations (if you’re packing yourself)

To protect your items and keep the move efficient:

  • Use sturdy boxes and tape them closed
  • Don’t overload boxes (avoid bottom blowouts)
  • Label “fragile” and “this side up” when needed
  • Set aside essentials for the first night (clothes, toiletries, chargers)
